Third High Level Forum on
Aid Effectiveness
Accra, Ghana, 2-4 September 2008

The
meeting in Accra in September brought together representatives from more than 100 countries, development agencies, donor organizations, and civil society organizations to discuss the progress made since the
Paris Declaration in 2005. It culminated in the adoption of the
Accra Agenda for Action.
The purpose of the meeting was to improve aid effectiveness. Development Gateway systematically addresses this important issue through its programs and Web-based applications. One of its programs, the Aid Management Platform, was presented on a poster at the marketplace of ideas.
The Accra Agenda for Actioncalls for donors to invest in aid management systems. In support of the agenda, donors also committed to increasing transparency and launched the
International Aid Transparency Initiative.
The Aid Management Platform is an e-government solution that helps developing countries manage and coordinate development assistance. Eight countries have implemented AMP. By the end of 2008, this application could track about 10 percent of official development assistance worldwide. Countries that have started to use AMP gain from the experiences of other countries using the system, fostering South-South cooperation. AMP empowers decision-makers, helps manage for results, and strengthens country ownership.
Development Gateway was represented at the high level forum by Mark Fleeton, CEO, Francis Dogo, Senior Director, Country Operations, and Stephen Davenport, Director, Aid Effectiveness.
