Burkina Faso Holds First AMP donor training
Following the installation of the Aid Management Platform (AMP) in Burkina Faso in March 2008, government staff in the Ministry of Economics and Finance have worked to fill the system with information on donor-funded activities. Now that the database is nearly complete, they are building awareness of AMP among a wider group. In July, twenty bilateral and multilateral aid agencies and NGOs attended the first-ever AMP donor training. The government intends to use the system to create its annual report on development assistance and in the future plans to extend direct AMP access to the donor community.
AMP supports Malawi’s Development Assistance Strategy
The Ministry of Finance in Malawi began using AMP in July as a practical tool to help implement its new Development Assistance Strategy. Malawi will receive about US$600 million this year in official development assistance and about two-thirds is in the form of direct project funding. Desk officers in the Ministry of Finance Debt and Aid Department have already populated AMP with the country’s portfolio of ongoing donor-financed activities. AMP will help to reduce the transaction costs associated with tracking and reporting on such a large volume of funding, which accounts for about 85 percent of government investment.
