AMP Expands into Francophone Africa
Burkina Faso, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo recently completed implementations of the Aid Management Program. The governments of these countries will use AMP to maintain up-to-date information on official development assistance so that they can easily analyze data and generate reports. To ensure the platform is maintained, the foundation’s aid effectiveness team will train government staff. Meanwhile, staff is beginning to enter and verify project and program data, in cooperation with development partners. Over time, by improving the availability and flow of information, AMP will facilitate progress toward the broader aid effectiveness objectives of improved coordination and harmonization, and alignment of aid with national priorities.

Development Gateway Portal Gets a Make Over
The Development Gateway Foundation will be launching a new content management system and a minor redesign of the online
resources portal in the coming months. Typo3 is a content management system that is more user-friendly than the existing one. It will also offer more options, such as the ability to rate resources. The new system will increase the efficiency in responding to the needs of our Web site visitors and contributors. The minor redesign will make give the portal a more pleasing look and feel. We welcome your comments about these changes. Send them to the Webmaster at sitefeedback@dgfoundation.org

COUNTRY GATEWAY NETWORK NEWS
LAC Country Gateways Announce a Regional Action Plan
Country Gateways in Latin America and the Caribbean agreed on a regional action plan for 2008 as a result of discussions held among Country Gateway representatives and Development Gateway Foundation staff. LAC Country Gateways affirmed the principles of collaboration and transparency as laid out in the Country Gateways charter they signed in Bonn, Germany, in 2004. They further agreed on some basic communication and collaboration mechanisms to support the country gateways network, such as holding virtual monthly meetings and using the
country.net portal.
The Country Gateways identified four potential projects:
- Support for the GAID-eLAC 2010 Network
- Replication of Colombia’s Local E-government Initiative in Central America
- EMPUJON-TIC, universalizing ICT use in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises
- Workshop on applications for mobile technologies
This action plan will be elaborated upon during the monthly meetings.
Asia-Pacific Country Gateway Sharpen Their Focus on Business and Program Needs
The Australian and Nepal Country Gateways worked together with the foundation on a capacity building and collaboration program. The program consisted of two in-country visits in January and February, the main focus of which was to assist the Nepal team to identify and address their needs for training and support in key business and program areas. The Nepal Country Gateway took part in a series of interactive workshops and meetings to address these areas. The workshop covered user identification and needs assessment; analysis of high-value portal functions; donor/partner reporting and communication; marketing; content development; project and risk management; and proposal development. To ensure the sustainability of the training, the Development Gateway Foundation, Australian Development Gateway and Nepal Development Gateway, are creating a wiki-style Country Gateway operational manual as a reference guide and to provide ongoing support. The Country Gateways plan to develop this further in the lead up to the Asia-Pacific Country Gateway forum, and to make it accessible to other members of the Asia-Pacific network. The Nepal team is currently submitting a number of proposals to local donors for support to allow them to develop an upgraded portal platform and re-focus their content to meet the needs of the identified user groups. This initiative was supported financially by AusAID and the foundation.
