AMP Helps Develop Government Capacity
Aasmund Andersen, managing advisor on the aid effectiveness team, has implemented the Aid Management Program in several African countries. In this interview, the first in an occasional series, he explains how the Aid Management Program helps government manage for results. He describes some of the challenges involved in managing complex aid flows and how the approach used by the implementation team supports the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness. At present, AMP systems track roughly 4% of total Official Development Assistance (ODA) worldwide, projected to increase to 10% by the end of 2008. Users have begun to collaborate with one another, building South-South partnerships for
aid effectiveness. To better serve their partner countries, members of the aid effectiveness team are based in Argentina, Kenya, Romania, and Senegal. The program has been implemented in Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Montenegro, and Tanzania.
