Development Gateway Foundation's dgCommunities Web site provides a space for people in the developing world and the international development community to exchange information and knowledge resources. Its success depends on the cooperation of more than 500 specialist volunteers and partner organizations to help manage and guide the content of dgCommunities. These are listed individually within each community section.
- Guides are individuals and organizations with domain expertise and a desire to serve the community with high-value knowledge and information.
- Advisors provide expert advice on a community's subject area.
- Associates are very active community members who have established strong records of content contribution.
- Cooperating organizations help promote dgCommunities and its vast knowledge resources to their own networks and online audiences.
If your organization wishes to work with Development Gateway Foundation to support a community or start a new one, we would like to hear from you! For example:
You can become a volunteer guide, advisor or associate if you have expertise related to a topic we cover and a desire to serve dgCommunities with thought leadership. Organizations can also get involved by designating a staff member to serve in one of these roles.
In return, you and/or your organization will gain visibility and recognition in the community. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with others in your field, and you will help nurture the growing, valuable service that dgCommunities provides.
Cooperating organizations also benefit from the excellent distribution network and visibility offered by dgCommunities. Tens of thousands of members worldwide receive content alerts and newsletters from dgCommunities on a regular basis. The site also receives an average of 150,000 unique visitors per month.
Become a guide
Volunteer guides play a key role in developing and managing each community. Both individuals and organizations can serve as guides. Guides periodically contribute brief feature articles, and monitor content submissions from members to ensure relevance and quality. They also help recruit advisors and cooperating organizations. All guides are committed to ensuring an open and welcoming community, free of bias or preference for particular viewpoints or sources of content.
Become an advisor
Advisors provide expert advice in the subject area of the community in which they serve. They work with the guides and Development Gateway Foundation staff members to identify key issues. They also are instrumental in helping connect dgCommunities with key partners.
Become an associate
Every community benefits from the energy and enthusiasm of its members. Associates are especially proactive members who search for and post high quality content for the benefit of all members and users. If you know the issues and have a bit of time to spare, consider becoming an associate.
Become a cooperating organization
Official cooperating organizations (COs) also have an important role to play. COs cross-link with dgCommunities, helping to raise awareness and interest in our knowledge sharing platform. CO's can participate in content development, and can disseminate their own work and publications to thousands of people worldwide. New cooperating organizations are announced in newsletters to our members. We will post your logo with a link back to your site and include a paragraph about the work of your organization. Simply link to Development Gateway Foundation's Online Resources Portal at www.developmentgateway.org from your organization's home page and designate a point person to work with us.
