Start a Country Gateway

Development Gateway Foundation welcomes proposals for the creation of new Country Gateways from organizations that share Development Gateway Foundation’s mission. Please review the information below to get started.

Initial funding may be available on a case-by-case basis but is dependent on direct interest from Development Gateway Foundation donors. All Country Gateways are expected to become financially independent of Development Gateway Foundation. Organizations that wish to create a Country Gateway without financial assistance from Development Gateway Foundation are also invited to apply. Self-funded Country Gateways must meet the same criteria and requirements as those receiving implementation funds.

Summary of Proposal Criteria and Process

All applications will be evaluated in the context of funding availability. If an application is accepted by Development Gateway Foundation, a formal agreement will be created between Development Gateway Foundation and the new Country Gateway organization. Each proposal must include the following elements:

• Plan for alignment with strong in-country partners
• Government support and/or participation
• Expected impact on local development
• Business plan outlining the potential for financial sustainability, including plans for initial and subsequent funding, as well as revenue generation, if applicable
• Governance structure and management plan
• Technology staffing plan

To support new Country Gateway, Development Gateway Foundation offers technical and strategic assistance, including software platforms to start their new Web sites and other services.
